A Latina grandmother from the city of Worcester in Massachusetts, has been awarded damages of $125,000 after a court ruled that she was badly assaulted by a cop and suffered severe body injuries from that attack back in 2013.
The Filming Cops reports that Daisy Morales, sued the city’s police department for $1 million after she was grossly abused and insulted by Police Officer James Powers.
According to the account of the story, the city’s police had visited Morales’ apartment twice the day the incident happened. Officers claimed they were responding to complaints that Morales’ household was noisy and disturbing the neighbors’ peace, a claim Morales denied.
On the third visit, Powers showed up to the residence alone. The lawsuit alleged he entered the apartment without even knocking. When Powers entered, he saw Morales sitting with a second person. This witness was identified as Sheila Alles.
Powers is said to have used a racial slur upon sighting the two. He said he was tired of civilians from their racial background (Latinos).
Officer Powers was alleged to have said “I’m sick of dealing with you Latinos.” The matter then continued to escalate when Morales tried to explain that there were no disturbances taking place in the house. Powers told her to “shut the fuck up!”
Alles, the witness to the incident, was said to have been disturbed by the behavior of Powers so decided to question his aggressive and rude behavior towards the 61-year-old woman. That was the moment hell broke loose.
Her question infuriated Powers and he charged at Alles, placed her arms behind her back, flipped her around and slammed her on the couch. He handcuffed her and shouted: “I’m going to arrest you.”
Morales, who by this time was confused and terrified, shouted “Oh my God, police brutality.” Powers then responded by saying, “I will show you police brutality.”
He immediately charged on her, body-slamming her five foot four inch, 135 pound frame with all his strength. The old woman landed face down on the floor, breaking her glasses. Reportedly, Powers then proceeded to pick Morales back up again and shove her onto a piece of furniture. Morales shrieked in pain.
Morales was then handcuffed like Alles. As she cried from her injuries, Powers did nothing about it. He waited for some minutes before the arrival of a second officer. By this time, Morales had suffered a broken shoulder.
As the second officer arrived and saw Morales’ condition, he ordered that she should be taken in an ambulance to hospital.
After the emergency medical aid at the hospital, it was later discovered that Morales had suffered life-threatening permanent injuries and required several corrective surgical procedures and regular physiotherapy.
Morales was quoted as saying that the incident still haunts her, and that it took her a whole year to gather the courage to file the lawsuit against the brutality of the officer.
The police department has refused to take any disciplinary action against Powers and he still continues to be a member of the department, throwing his weight about in the city.

Just a small correction, when it’s a woman it’s a Latina. When it’s a man it’s a Latino.
Thanks.
What?!?!?!? Only $125,000.00?! More like 5 million dollars.
