Not All Cops Are Bad; See What This Officer Did For An Orphan Teen

1

Recently, the police have been in the news for all the bad reasons across the United States. And we have reported it according to the facts of the matter. For that, some have labeled as anti-police. But today, we want to prove our critics wrong.

We are news organization. We are activists. We report objectively not subjectively. If the police do what is expected of them, we will report it.

A typical example is this story we are about to tell you. Last month, a couple named Riley and Emily Portie were riding their motorcycle when they were struck down by a reckless drunk driver in the city of Orange, Texas. They died at the scene of the accident. They left behind five children of which the youngest is 18 years who was on the verge of completing his high school studies.

An Officer from the Orange Police Department-Eric Ellison responded to the crash and after performing his official duty, he also took the responsibility of breaking the bad news to the couple’s family.

It is said that when Ellison arrived at the family home, he found their youngest son-Kazzie Portie home alone. Kazzie was Just about to graduate from Little Cypress–Mauriceville High School less than a week later when Officer Ellison told him the sad news about his parents.

Ellison later told buzzfeed.com/ when it emerged that he had showed great compassion and love for the teen even to the extent of attending his graduation ceremony to represent his parents that he felt so sad for the boy seeing him to graduate without his parents and he had no alternative than to do what he did.

“It was a very upsetting situation. I said you are going to walk. Your mom and dad will have front-row seats looking down from heaven, and I’ll stand in their place. I’ve got your back. I had to be the bearer of bad news for him, and I felt that was just the right thing to do,” he said.

Ellison also said the tragic death of the boy’s parents had gotten deep into him and he even cried during the graduation ceremony. It is said when Kazzie’s name was mentioned for him to go for his Diploma, he was given a standing ovation and that was the most emotional moment for Ellison.

“If you didn’t cry then you don’t have a heart, I was bawling my eyes out”, Ellison said.

I would like to say thank you for all the birthday wishes today, and I am HUMBLED for the positive comments I’ve…

When the care and love he has showed began to spread in the city, Ellison took to his Facebook page to say he was grateful for the support and the positive comments, adding that the focus should be on Kazzie.

For the young boy Kazzie, what the Officer has done is something he will never forget. He was quoted as saying “Seeing Officer Ellison there to congratulate me meant the world to me. It was so nice to see that he actually showed a genuine care for me and my family’s situation instead of us just being another ‘case. I’ll never be able to thank enough some very few people that stayed with me through the days and as well as everyone that helped me in any way at all and all the people praying for me and my family”.

This was such a special moment. Thank you class of 2015 for making this such a memorable occasion for our family. So proud of you @kazz418 I love you so much. Throughout all of this you have been so strong and we are so proud of you. Thank you for being such a great brother. I am so excited to see what the future holds for you. I know mom and bubba are so proud of you. Again, love you brother and thank you for being who you are.Kazzie Portie

“My parents talked in the last month how proud they were of me for graduating, and not just for graduating, but how proud of me they were for the man I have become. And knowing all of this, truly warms my heart with joy”, Kazzie added.

This picture sums up, why LIFE matters. If you were at the LCM Graduation today you could feel the love shown by the Class of 2015.

From what Officer Ellison has done, we now know that at least, there are some good officers out there. If all Officers in the US will behave and act like Ellison, we wouldn’t be where we are today considering how some reckless Officers have killed, harassed and abused unarmed people for no apparent reason across the nation. We say a big congratulation to Officer Ellison for his compassionate heart and the care he showed to the orphan boy.

  1. Officers like that are such a rarity that it is all but that they don’t even exist. and that in itself is truly truly sad.
