The UFC fighter made a trip to North Dakota and donated fruits, vegetables, bread, tents and wood-burning stoves to “water protectors” who are protesting the Dakota Access Pipeline.
News coverage of Ronda Rousey peaked before and after her much-anticipated fight with Amanda Nunes this year. Though the UFC fighter lost that battle, there’s another one she’s got her eye on and isn’t backing down from.
According to TMZ, the former bantamweight champion recently made a secret trip to the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe in North Dakota to deliver supplies and offer her support. Rousey joined up with fellow Olympic judo athlete Pauline Macias and the duo brought “water protectors” fresh fruit, vegetables, bread, tents, and wood-burning stoves. An unidentified source claims Rousey was trying to “stay under the radar,” hence the news reporting it to be a ‘secret run’. It soon became common knowledge that Ronda made the trip, however. Macias posted a photo to Instagram with the caption:
“I had one of the best road trips of my life with @rondarousey to deliver supplies to the protesters at Standing Rock!”
“This was such an incredible experience, & I can’t thank my friend enough for allowing me to be a part of it! #NODAPL #StandWithStandingRock” she added.

Since April of 2016, protesters have been camped out near Cannon Ball, ND, to protest the development of a four-state pipeline that may potentially uproot sacred burial ground and contaminate the Missouri river. When the U.S. Army Corps denied an easement to the parent company constructing the $3.8 billion pipeline in early December, activists thought the Standing Rock Sioux tribe’s plight was over. As it is, nothing could be further from the truth. Earlier this week, Donald Trump signed an executive order reviving the Keystone XL and Dakota Access oil pipelines.
It’s for this reason that many are finding inspiration and hope in Rousey’s visit. activist leader Linda Black Elk told TMZ Sports:
“That’s what keeps us going, that kind of support and just the morale booster it was. That’s what keeps us going. It means everything to us.”
This isn’t the first time Rousey has clashed with Trump, either. Back when the business tycoon was campaigning to hold the highest office in the U.S., he claimed he had the heavyweight fighter’s support. She was quick to call him out on the declaration. Infrequently, they continued to spar in the press and on social media. He even went as far as to say she’s “not a nice person.”
Her support of the Standing Rock Sioux tribe may suggest otherwise. What are your thoughts? Please comment below and share this news!
