The author and public speaker, Charles Eisenstein has predicted that, despite the various challenges the world is going through, there is still hope for the future.
In a short film entitled ‘The More Beautiful World Our Hearts Know Is Possible’, which was based on the book he had written in 2013, Eisenstein outlined the current global problems, and concluded with words of encouragement that would be warmly received by any humanist.
Charles Eisenstein is the author of several books including the Ascent of Humanity (2007), Sacred Economics (2011) and the More Beautiful World Our Hearts Know Is Possible (2013).
When `The More Beautiful World Our Hearts Know is Possible’ was published in November 2013, Publishers’ Weekly described it as “a revolutionary and interactive book in the sense that it inspires the reader to think out of the ordinary and will be noted in antiquity as one of the seminal and pioneering storytellers of this new world.”
The film was produced by Sustainable Human and directed by Ian MacKenzie and it has been described as an incredibly sad, yet hopeful piece. It was filmed at dusk on a beautiful Scottish beach. In the video, Eisenstein is captured in a moment of grief and reflection.
He explains that there are so many social and ecological crises around the world, and asked rhetorically what exactly is humanity able to do to solve these problems? He then provides the answer, which is deceptively simple: “In order to find your way, you must get lost. There’s a vast territory for what we’re leaving behind, and where we want to go. We don’t have any maps for that journey.”
He also spoke about a wide range of issues including the media‘s role in society and the destructive military-industrial complex. He wonders how philosophically, humans can treat each other so badly without any sign of sympathy.
He ended by saying that there is good news because humanity can still correct these errors with something more sustainable, which in the end would correct the wrong and bring lasting peace.
“I think the ideological core of our civilization is hollowing out. A movement is not something one can create. A movement creates us.”
Those who have watched the video say it is very thought-provoking despite the many sad things he had mentioned, despite the dangers that are likely to befall humanity due to our own activities and actions on the planet earth.
Eisenstein has distinguished himself as a motivational speaker over the years. Since 2010, he has spoken over three hundred times in over one hundred cities in the United States and elsewhere. All his events are held voluntarily. In 2013, journalist and author, Rory Spowers described Eisenstein as a “refreshing new voice”, saying that he’s young, fresh, well informed, humble but articulate, with a very spiritual perspective.
