A white police officer from the US state of Ohio has resigned after he was caught calling for the total extermination of the black race from the surface of the earth.
Aaron McNamara, a Fairview Park Police Department volunteer resigned from the department after he was accused of posting inflammatory and racist comments on social media.
The 21-year-old officer was featured in a Cleveland Scene article. In the article, the site claims that he posted comments on YouTube videos that used racist terms such as “jungle monkey” and “spooks, ” to refer to black people. In addition, the site also claims that the officer also stated that he would like to “beat the living shit out of them till they all die.”
He is also alleged to have said that abolishing slavery was the biggest mistake the white race has made, and that the white race should have exterminated the black race completely.
According to newsnet5.com, McNamara said in his resignation letter that he made those comments long before he joined the police department and now regrets those irresponsible utterances. He also acknowledged that his comments could have caused chaos and violence in the country.
“The comments I made in those particular videos were a product of my youth and immaturity; by no means am I a prejudice individual. I am an advocate for equality, and I am highly disappointed in myself for the statements I had previously made. I cannot recollect the most recent comment I was accused of making in February 2014, but I am not denying the claim,” McNamara wrote.
Meanwhile, the Fairview Park Police chief, Lt. Paul Shepard, told reporters that the department’s attention was drawn to the alleged comments made by McNamara, and upon interviewing him, he was forced to resign. He distanced the department from the comments of McNamara and warned that the department will act swiftly to deal with such issues, adding that the department never saw the comments he made before he was recruited.
“The City of Fairview Park does not tolerate this type of conduct from any person working or volunteering for this city. He never displayed any prejudicial leanings, nor did any arise during his background check,” he said.
Shepard also added that McNamara was not mandated to make arrests and that he was only responsible for assisting with parades, traffic control, service-oriented calls and locking up the parks.
However, social commentators and many on social media have questioned how the police department recruited him without doing a thorough background check. Despite this, McNamara resignation has been widely welcomed.
