Cyberbullying Is OK? These Kids Tell You It Hurts.

10

There’s nothing funny about cyber-bullying. When US President Barack Obama read mean tweets about himself on Jimmy Kimmel Live, audience and viewers laughed their guts out. He was a mature celebrity; the people knew the tweets were for fun and that the President of the USA was, by definition, able to understand that mean tweets could not hurt him. However, ask school kids what they feel about cyber-bullying and the answer will not make anyone laugh.

Canadian Safe School Network and John St., an advertising agency, has made a video to send a powerful message to those who do not take the problem seriously– Cyber-bullies take shots at kids’ race, weight, and appearance….. and it hurts them. Watch a few kids read mean tweets about themselves: you will be completely silenced in the end when the final tweet, which shows cyber-bullying at its worst, is read.

“We wanted to use the ‘Mean Tweets’ model because in a way, those videos give the message that cyberbullying is OK – even funny. But adult celebrities have the maturity and confidence to overcome these hurtful words. Children don’t. For regular kids, words can cut like a knife,” said Stu Auty, president of the Canadian Safe School Network.

The organization has started an Indiegogo fundraising page to help spread its message.

  1. I almost died of laughing my ass off…
Cyberbullying, yeah, shure, cut the connection and bullying stops, its so easy…
Not like the school bully-terror, what most kids cant avoid if they are in.

Stupid humanity always crys for attention and money <.<

    • How awful and ignorant your comment is.
What’s funny about telling a little girl to kill herself?
Do you remember being 10, 13 or 15? Evidently not. Cyber bulling is often 100% worse than face to face, school yard bullying because there’s an element of freedom and safety in saying mean comments behind a computer which enables bullies to go that extra stretch further with their hurtful words.

  2. What the fuck are you on about? Yeah damn humanity! Attention and money! That makes sense, right? You’re naivety is the real threat to humanity. My advice is to lay off the internet for a while and reflect on your inner-most thoughts. Perhaps you’re a sociopath and will get the right treatment soon enough.

  3. I did laugh because some of those tweets were funny BUT I also cringed because I can’t imagine someone reading those things about themselves. It is hurtful and it is messed up. I agree with the person who said that cyber bullying is worse because of the element of freedom. I am sure the same people who would write these things on social media about someone with a username would not do so to the persons face in school. Parents need to spend a little more time teaching their kids not to be such assholes.

  4. These are innocent children. This is unacceptable, could care less if it’s happening over a computer or face to face. This has to stop. Parents TEACH YOUR CHILDREN BETTER. This kind of hatred is learned with in the home. Period. I just wanted to hug them and tell them how beautiful each and every one of them are. Please hug your children and tell them you life them. When you hear or see anyone being bullied make it your business.

  5. the kids who post these things need to seriously have the s###t kicked out of them. That also goes for the adult kids. Cyber bullying is just a poison cancer and we need to make kids aware by starting school programs.
