Yesterday, a total of 576 Women’s Marches took place around the world to promote gender equality, LGBTQ rights, and to address racial inequalities.
Yesterday, millions of people marched against bigotry and sexism all around the world. In fact, the mass amount of marches in the U.S. turned out to be the largest protest in America’s history. At least 3.2 million people took to the streets to support women’s rights, and it really was all anyone was talking about the day after Donald Trump became the United States’ 45th President.
The Women’s March initially centered around Washington DC but evolved into a total of 576 protests around the globe. 408 marches took place in the U.S., and 168 in other countries. The intention of the protest was to promote gender equality, LGBTQ rights and to address racial inequalities.
Those who demonstrated did so to send a powerful message: that women’s rights matter and that activists are ready to work as hard as necessary to ensure equality for all. The Women’s March official website reads:
“The Women’s March on Washington will send a bold message to our new government on their first day in office, and to the world that women’s rights are human rights.”
