How can anyone possibly enjoy their ice creams with all these dead kids washing up on the beach?
A video highlighting blatant racism and disregard for the suffering of refugees by certain people within British society is circulating, and it’s shocking. At least, it will be for all of you outside the UK; those of us who live here are becoming quite used to it (although I can say from experience that it never gets any easier).
The clip from AP+ features hideously insensitive tweets and comments by members of the public. They are taken from leading right-wing UK newspaper The Daily Mail, as well as a vile neo-Fascist (they say ‘patriotic’) Facebook page called Britain First (we prefer the hilarious spoof version). The topic is the angle of the Daily Mail’s coverage on the plight of Syrian refugees, and how their suffering is causing great inconvenience to the British holidaymakers who flock to the Greek islands for their summer break. The newspaper referred to the island of Kos as a ‘disgusting hell-hole’, due to the fact that it has become a landing point for families escaping war-torn countries like Syria and Iraq on their way to find sanctuary in Europe.
Comments and tweets on this story need to be seen to be believed, but they can be summarized like this: let’s close our borders, send immigrants back to their ‘own countries’ by force, and attack the boats carrying refugees so that they can’t claim asylum here. One pitiful excuse for a human being even suggested that the British Army uses the refugees as ‘target practice’, and these kinds of vile comments are by no means isolated. This is a section of British society that some of us are ashamed to even acknowledge, but they form part of a cruel reality the whole world should know about.
If this makes your blood boil, you might want to check out yesterday’s feature on tragic little Aylan, the Syrian toddler whose lifeless body washed up on a Turkish beach, sparking anger across the world. Would he, and millions of others, still be safe in Syria if it weren’t for Western imperialism and the illegal oil wars launched by Britain, the USA and their allies? For there’s too much anti immigrant and too much immigrant rhetoric going on. I’m in a UK where the whole of Europe say back and did nothing about mass migration to UK. No one was interested. There’s always two sides to a story. The whole of Europe did nothing to assist the UK. Belgium European court of human rights blocked the UK continually from removing illegal immigrants many criminals and trouble makers mixed in to the people who generally needed help. Unfortunately a lot of UK citizens became very anti immigrant even though a good deal of these migrants were good people alot were not. Then we and France blocked the UK border. Suddenly Europe sat up and woke up. Now Germany has opened a can of worms. A percentage of the many people flooding to Germany has caused a massive migration to Europe. None of it would be problem if all these people were all from Syria and needed help but they are not. Syrian and Iraqi refugees are the ones we all need to help, not the millions of other country nations who just want a free passage into Europe. That is what the British object to. You should not be all one sided on this issue. There is more to the story than your pro migrant rhetoric too. The world is at war. Let’s not be forgetful in mind. I believe Germany has today blocked its border. Let in the Syrian refugees by all means but there nee to be a border control In place to stop not just the criminal element, the non refugee migrant also Isis. Be open minded and come on anonymous. I respect you and your own battles against oppression. Migration without security is asking for trouble don’t you think in these sad times. Yes the west can be blamed for the Middle East. How about Russia and the Far East too. Even the dictatorships in the countries can also be blamed for mass arrest oppression and murder of their own people. We in the west are not all to blame for all the Middle East troubles.

Anonymous. Not sure exactly where your coming from with your reply to my post. Not once in my post did I mention my so called elitist class because I happen to live in the west. Not once did I denounce any refugee needing help if you read my post again. Yes we are all gods children even the ones whom threaten all the children of our world. Even mine and yours if you have any. Rich so called friends???? Who mentioned money…. Not me!!! I’m very far from rich elitist westerner. I along with all parents of all nations living peacefully within the European borders work very hard for what little money you talk about to protect and keep safe our children. Like my post said. I have NO ISSUE with legitimate refugees whom need help. If I was a refugee from a war torn country….. Yes if it made my family safe yes I would do whatever possible. Now if I entered a country for safety with NO SECURITY then what safety have I given my family. Like I said before also I side with anonous and its attacks on oppression. it makes me so angry reading all these horrible tweets , the absolute hypocrisy of the british is truly astonishing considering Britain raped and pillaged just about every national on earth , and in the last 10-15 have been responsible for the most civilian deaths on the planet (along with the US….)
