After spending his early years in the system—both juvenile detentions and prisons– Actor Danny Trejo (From Dusk Till Dawn, xXx, Spy Kids, The Devil’s Rejects) began to focus his energies on helping others, and he credits the success he’s had to this moral standard.
“Everything good that has happened to me, has happened as a direct result of helping someone else.”
Born in Los Angeles in 1944, Trejo described himself as a “wild kinda’ kid.” His uncle taught him to box at a young age—something Trejo says was a necessity in order to protect himself—and he spent most of his youth and early adult life fighting. Drugs became a release, and he eventually found himself being circulated through the juvenile system, and eventually prison system.
Even while in prison, Trejo continued to box, and upon his final release, he decided to direct his efforts towards helping others by offering drug counseling and support to young people battling drug addictions. It was this drive to help others that eventually landed Trejo a job on a movie set as a boxing trainer, leading to a multitude of roles in numerous films.
Trejo still works as an intervention counselor, and attributes his continual happiness and satisfaction to the work he does, and his role as a devoted father of three.
