5-Year-Old Boy In A Batman Costume Saves 1-Year-Old Girl Trapped In Car

Iris Adamski, a toddler, gets locked inside the Volkswagen Beetle while her grandmother loads groceries into their scorching car outside Tesco in Uckfield, in South East England. She is rescued by a five-year-old boy dressed as Batman. This is not just a story, it’s a true one.

On July 14, John Penny, a retired communications director, and wife Caroline, were packing the shopping in the Tesco car park in Uckfield, East Sussex, when the doors got mysteriously locked with Iris, the couples granddaughter, nestled and fast asleep on the back seat.

The horrified grandparents called the police; cops tried everything but were unable to open the door. They smashed open the rear window, but there was no one small enough to crawl inside, fetch the keys and rescue the child.

Zavi Ahmed, a 5-year-old boy dressed like Batman, sprang into action after he spotted cops trying to free Iris and offered to squeeze through. After an officer put his sweater down on the window’s edge to protect Zavi from the broken glass, the boy crawled in, retrieved the keys, and opened the door. All this while Zavi’s 2-year-old brother, Nadeen, dressed as Superman, watched in awe.

Zavi’s mother, Emma, told the Mirror, That morning he decided he wanted to be dressed as Batman, I don’t know why. My friend said he could go to Tesco and be a superhero and that’s just what happened. We couldn’t believe it. Of all the days for him to dress up and that happens.”

Iris’s grandfather said, “It really was a case of Batman to the rescue.” Her grandmother added, “He was a true superhero and I’m so grateful to him. Iris is so happy to be saved by Batman – if she gets married that will definitely be told at her wedding.”

And what did Zavi say for his fearless and heroic act? “I always feel like a superhero but that day was special.”

  1. There’s nothing really heroic in this story. The child was locked in the car and the police were called and the window was too small so a kid offered to crawl through and do the business… Well done to the kid but this really is a non-event story!

  2. Nice to have a positive story and for the child to be able to do a good deed. It’s a news worthy story to me. Lighten up

  3. My question, is why did they knock out the back window of a 2-door car to try and unlock it, when the toddler was in the back seat? Seems a bit too risky with the chance of glass hitting her.
