A recent screening of The Big Short, a new film that Brad Pitt and fellow co-stars Christian Bale, Steve Carell and Ryan Gosling starred in, has exposed the banking elite and their corruption. The film takes on their unaccountable nature, following the credit crash and housing bubble collapse through four outsiders wanting to take on the big banks responsible.
Brad Pitt, with the film’s director Adam McKay, during a screening this week, both revealed their motivations to do the film ran deeper than just entertainment. “We did a screening . . . Nancy Pelosi was there . . . We talked about that. It’s the oldest scam . . . [Bankers] tell the leaders, ‘If you put us in jail, you’ll ruin the economy,’ said McKay, ‘I think Obama has done a lot of good things, but I think one of the big black marks on his presidency is that no one went to jail.”
McKay acknowledged the difficult task of educating people through Hollywood film, noting most films tend to “prop up the status quo and refuses to challenge the paradigm.” He went as far as criticizing Obama for his lack of action and failure to prosecute those bankers involved.
Pitt also voiced his disgruntlement with the banking cartels when asked if they should have been held accountable. “I’m as frustrated as you are . . . I think it’s horrible that no bank officials have ever been held accountable. Therefore, there’s no incentive to stop this behavior.”
