Watch: Biden Mixes up Granddaughter With Late Son Beau During Philadelphia Appearance

0

Joe Biden didn’t slow down on the campaign trail on Tuesday, making a few key stops in Pennsylvania, including Philadelphia. During his visit in the City of Brotherly Love, Biden was caught on camera making quite the slip-up when talking about some of his family members.

“I want to introduce you to my grandchildren,” Biden began to tell the crowd through a megaphone. “This is my son, Beau Biden, whom a lot of you helped to elect to Senate in Delaware.” The former Delaware Attorney General was diagnosed with a brain tumor and passed away in 2015. Biden continued, “This is my granddaughter, Natalie.” That’s when he realized the error he made as he was overheard saying, “No wait, we got the wrong one.” Natalie, as he clarified, is the daughter of Beau. The clip went viral across social media as many pointed to Biden’s slip-up as a sign of weakness, claiming that his opponent, Donald Trump, has continued to push onto his supporters.

There were plenty of Biden supporters in the comments sticking up for the Democratic candidate. One response read, “Obviously he meant to say it was his son Beau Biden’s daughter, and got mixed up. He visited Beau’s grave this morning, and he’s understandably the most nervous today that he’s ever been.” On the flip side, another user was turned off by Biden’s apparent mental lapse, “Beau has been dead for five years. The man clearly has a cognitive issue and shouldn’t be anywhere near politics yet alone the Oval office.” Many others took this stance as another commented, “I was never voting for this guy but my gosh it hurts to watch how his mental decline is out there for everyone to see… very, very sad to watch at this point.”

Trump has gone on the attack about Biden’s cognitive capability. One example was a few days before the first debate in Pittsburgh at one of his rallies when he said Biden “doesn’t have a clue.” He continued to go down that route for much of his upcoming rallies. “He’s a dumb guy,” Trump claimed. “Always known as a dumb guy. But we look forward to seeing him in the debate.

Mississippi Replaces Confederate-Themed Flag After Voting and Fellow Americans Weigh In

The design had been created after state lawmakers in June voted to replace the original flag. “The New Magnolia” was selected among 3,000 submissions. The design, according to the Department of Archives and History, “represents Mississippi’s sense of hope and rebirth, as the Magnolia often blooms more than once and has a long blooming season.”

While “The New Magnolia” has unsurprisingly been the topic of conversation in the state of Mississippi, as Mississippians officially approved the design on Tuesday, it became the talk throughout the country, as Americans weighed in on social media. Scroll down to see what people are saying.

Mississippi’s original flag featured blue and white stripes and the Confederate battle emblem in the corner. It had been adopted in 1894. CNN reports that Mississippi was the last state in the country whose flag included the Confederate emblem.

The flag had been the center of controversy for some time, and a statewide vote in 2001 resulted in the majority of voters choosing to keep the original flag. The push to replace the flag, however, was reinvigorated in 2020 amid nationwide protests following the police killings of several Black men, including George Floyd.

In June, a group of bipartisan lawmakers started to draft a resolution to change the state’s flag. At the time, the Mississippi Baptist Convention said that “the racial overtones of the flag’s appearance make this discussion a moral issue. Since the principal teachings of Scripture are opposed to racism, a stand against such is a matter of biblical morality.”

Terror-Attack In Vienna – 3 Dead – Several Gunmen

Shots fired at six locations in Austria’s capital left three people dead and 15 others wounded; police killed one gunman.

Police in Austria have launched a manhunt after gunmen opened fire at multiple locations across central Vienna, killing at least four people and wounding several more in what Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz described as a “repulsive terror attack”.

One of the suspected gunmen, identified as an Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL or ISIS) group sympathiser, was shot dead by police who said they were searching for at least one more assailant still at large.

Fifteen people were injured in the attack in the center of the capital, among them a police officer, Austrian Interior Minister Karl Nehammer said on Tuesday.

The attacks, in six locations including near a synagogue in the centre of the city, were carried out by “several suspects armed with rifles”, police said on Monday night.

Authorities are still trying to determine whether further attackers may be on the run.

“It sounded like firecrackers, then we realised it was shots,” said one eyewitness quoted by ORF.

A shooter had “shot wildly with an automatic weapon” before police arrived and opened fire, the witness added.

The Interior Minister Nehammer repeated calls for the public to stay at home on Tuesday in an early morning televised news conference. He called the incident an attack on Austria’s values and democratic society. “The attacker sympathised with the militant terrorist group IS,” he said referring to ISIS. The interior minister however, declined to elaborate, citing the ongoing investigation.

Earlier, Mayor Michael Ludwig told public broadcaster ORF that one person was killed at the scene of the shootings, and a second person – the woman who was wounded during the attack – died of her injuries in the early hours of Tuesday.

The attack began at about 8pm (19:00 GMT) on Monday, when several men armed with rifles opened fire – starting outside the city’s main synagogue – as many people took advantage of the last evening before a nationwide curfew took effect because of COVID-19.

Officials said schools would be closed on Tuesday.

Frequent sirens and helicopters could be heard as emergency services responded to the shootings, and a large area of central Vienna was cordoned off.

Thomas Mayer, the European Editor at Austria’s Der Standard newspaper, told Al Jazeera that “there are police everywhere and the city centre is closed”.

“The problem is there are so many people who went to restaurants and bars to have some joy in the last evening before lockdown (and now) these people cannot go home,” he added.

“We are experiencing difficult hours in our republic,” Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz said on Twitter, adding that the army would protect sites in the capital so the police could focus on anti-terror operations.

“Our police will act decisively against the perpetrators of this repulsive terror attack,” he said. “We will never be intimidated by terrorism and we will fight this attack with all means”.

The assailants, Kurz later told ORF, were “very well prepared” and “very well equipped, with automatic weapons”.

‘At least 100 rounds or even more’

Nehammer had earlier described the incident “an apparent terror attack”.

“We have brought several special forces units together that are now searching for the presumed terrorists. I am therefore not limiting it to an area of Vienna, because these are mobile perpetrators,” he told ORF.

While the shootings began near Vienna’s main synagogue, Jewish community leader Oskar Deutsch said on Twitter that it was not clear whether the synagogue and adjoining offices had been the target.

He added that they were closed at the time.

Rabbi Schlomo Hofmeister told London’s LBC radio he was in the compound of the synagogue when the attack took place.

“Upon hearing shots, we looked down [from] the windows and saw the gunmen shooting at the guests of the various bars and pubs,” he said.

“The gunmen were running around and shooting at least 100 rounds or even more in front of our building,” he said.

Bars and restaurants were packed with customers at the time of the shooting.

Eveline, a witness, described the moment people started to run after hearing gun shots.

“Suddenly the shooting started, at first we did not know what it was … Then there was shooting again, but closer, so we started to run away,” she told The Associated Press news agency.

“Because we did not know if we were running in the right direction, we ran into a hotel and hid there.”

Many European leaders took to social media to express their shock at the shootings.

On Twitter, French President Emmanuel Macron said France “shared the shock and grief of the Austrian people … This is Europe. Our enemies must know who they are dealing with. We will never give up.”

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson said he was “deeply shocked” at the attacks, and said Britain stood united with Austria, a sentiment shared by Mark Rutte, Prime Minister of the Netherlands.

“Our thoughts are with the victims and their families, and with the Austrian government in dealing with this heinous act,” Rutte wrote on Twitter.

German Company Led By Turkish Scientist Claims To Have Covid-19 RNA Vaccine By End Of Year

CEO of Biontech SE Ugur Sahin has expressed confidence that the Corona-vaccine in development by the biotechnology company could be available by the end of the year.

The vaccine could quickly be approved, if the ongoing clinical studies of Biontech and its US based partner Pfizer confirm the positive data received so far, Sahin said on Thursday. He is expecting more results within two weeks.

Last October, Uğur Şahin traveled from Germany to New York to launch the initial public offering of his decade-old biotechnology company with a message about its new and unproven technology. “We rely on the patient’s immune system,” Şahin said before ringing the opening bell at Nasdaq’s market site. “We want to activate the patient’s immune cells to identify, to detect, and eliminate tumor cells.”

BioNTech said that it may file for authorisation of the COVID-19 vaccine it is developing with US drugmaker Pfizer in late November if trial data are positive. The efficacy results from the late-stage trial of Pfizer-BioNTech coronavirus vaccine will be available shortly, BioNTech chief executive Ugur Sahin said.

“We will certainly be smarter in a fortnight,” Sahin said in a video interview with regional publisher VRM posted online late on Thursday. “We are optimistic,” he said.

The regulatory filing for the vaccine could come as soon as safety data is available, possibly in the third week of November, Pfizer chief executive officer Albert Bourla said earlier.

“We have reached the last mile here,” Bourla said. “So let’s all have the patience that’s required for something so important for public health and the global economy.”

Bourla said the drug giant could supply some 40 million doses in the United States in 2020 if clinical testing proceeds as expected and regulators approve a vaccine.

The US Food and Drug Administration said earlier this month it wants at least two months of safety data on half of the trial participants before authorizing emergency use of any experimental coronavirus vaccine.

Pfizer’s coronavirus vaccine trial has enrolled more than 42,000 volunteers, the company announced Tuesday in third-quarter earnings report. It said nearly 36,000 of the volunteers have already received the second of its two-dose COVID-19 vaccine. In September, Pfizer expanded the enrollment of its phase three trial to up to 44,000 volunteers from the initial target of up to 30,000.

How Pfizer vaccine works

The experimental vaccine developed by Pfizer and BioNTech contains genetic material messenger called mRNA. The drugmaker inject people with the genetic material necessary to grow the “spike protein” of SARS-CoV-2 inside their own cells, thus eliciting an immune response the body will remember when it encounters the real virus. This effectively turns a person’s own body into a vaccine factory, avoiding the costly and difficult processes that more traditional vaccine production requires. The mRNA based vaccine candidate require deep-freezers for storage, which could limit distribution.

While vaccines are a crucial tool against the virus, experts have warned they can’t be a substitute for behavioral measures like masks and social distancing to curb transmission.

Trump Has Been The Best President For Afroamericans – But Not For The Reasons He Thinks

0

For close to four years, Donald Trump has claimed that he has done more for black Americans than any president since Abraham Lincoln. He notes the unemployment rate, opportunity zones, and the First Step Act, while ignoring the actions of presidents like Harry Truman, who integrated the military, and Lyndon Johnson, who signed the Civil Rights Act into law.

Surprisingly, however, Trump is not exactly wrong. He has been one of the best presidents for black Americans, just not for the reasons he thinks.

Unemployment rate for African Americans went as low as 5.5% in September last yearthe lowest figure recorded since the US Department of Labor started collecting these statistics in the 1970s.

In 2019, the latest data available, the African-American poverty rate was 18.8% – which is the lowest on record, beating the previous year, since the official count began in the 1960s.

The policies that Trump has put forth have unquestionably helped African Americans. He recently signed an executive order on police reform and earlier signed the First Step Act into law. The measure reforms the criminal justice system and has resulted in the release of thousands of people from prison (90 percent of whom are Black).

The president has also promoted Opportunity Zones, which incentivize private investment into marginalized communities.

In addition, Trump has increased federal funding for historically Black colleges and universities by 17 percent to a total exceeding $100 million — more than any president in history.

President Barack Obama, meanwhile, infamously removed funds from a program created by the George W. Bush that annually funded $85 million directly to these prized institutions.

Trump also recently unveiled his Platinum Plan, which pledges to create 3 million new jobs in the Black community, open 500,000 new Black-owned businesses, and increase Black Americans’ access to capital by almost $500 billion over the next four years. Plus, want to designate the Ku Klux Klan as a terrorist group — something that President Obama never did.

Biden’s riddled history with harming policies for the Afro-Americans

On the other hand, Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden has a history riddled with policies that have harmed African Americans.

For example, the 1994 crime law, which Biden helped author when he was a senator, incentivized local police departments to conduct more aggressive patrolling, creating mass incarceration of African Americans.

Biden was also directly responsible for a provision of a 1986 law involving crack cocaine, which came to be viewed as one of the most racially discriminatory sentencing policies on record. The law treated crack cocaine as significantly worse than powder cocaine. It ended up disproportionately punishing African Americans and sending them to prison, while allowing more lenient treatment for White Americans, who more often used cocaine in its powdered form.

During the presidential primaries, some prominent African Americans — including radio show host Charlamagne tha God — complained that Biden doesn’t have a plan for Black Americans.

But that doesn’t matter to Biden, who thinks Black voters should vote for him simply because he’s a Democrat, regardless of whether his policies benefit them. Or, as he said in May: “If you’ve got a problem figuring out whether you’re for me or for Trump, then you ain’t Black.”

Creepy Biden Tells “beautiful young ladies” He Wants To “See them dancing when they’re four years older”

THIS is the cringeworthy moment “creepy” Joe Biden tells a group of “beautiful young ladies” he wants to “see them dancing when they are four years older”.

The presidential candidate, 77, made the comments during a visit to the Little Haiti Cultural Center in Miami this month.

He spotted a group of young girls watching him speak when he said: “And I want to see these beautiful young ladies – I want to see them dancing when they’re four years older too.”

Video of his comments was shared on social media, with some saying Biden’s behaviour was “creepy”.

“These are the young girls that Biden wants to see dance in four years. Yikes,” one person tweeted.

Former NFL player Herschel Walker tweeted: “To Joe Biden and campaign, telling young African American girls ‘I want to see you dancing when you’re four years older’ is not only creepy but racist!”

Another person tweeted: “Creepy Joe Biden wants to see teenage girls ‘dancing when they’re four years older’… eww.”

‘CREEPY’ BEHAVIOUR

In February, Biden creeped out his supporters by kissing his teenage grand-daughter granddaughter Finnegan on the lips during a speech at a campaign event in Iowa.

The teen, who is the daughter of Biden’s son Hunter, stood next to her grandfather as he hugged members of the crowd.

At one point the Democrat nominee could be seen kissing a toddler’s hand while walking through the crowd.

Several people took to Twitter to air their disgust at the politician.

Chris Oliver wrote: “Watch Joe Biden kiss his granddaughter, that’s creepy.”

Another Twitter user said: “Find you a man who kissed you like Joe Biden kisses his granddaughter.”

Beth Bourdon joked: “I would like a man to kiss me the way Joe Biden kisses his granddaughter.”

Last year Biden made a strange gag about having “permission” to hug a boy on stage.

Biden faces multiple accusations of “creepily” invading personal space. This includes head kisses, shoulder rubs and forehead touching.

But addressing electrical workers union members in Washington in April 2019, the politician appeared to make light of the allegations.

Biden invited a group of kids on stage because they had been seated on the floor during his speech, and then shook each child’s hand.

Placing his arm around the shoulder of one lad, he then quipped: “By the way, he gave me permission to touch him.”

Earlier he back-patted union president Lonnie Stephenson on stage and told the audience: “I just want you to know I had permission to hug Lonny.”
