Ramsey Orta, the man who filmed the fatal incident on July 17, 2014 between NYPD Officer Daniel Pantaleo, and Eric Garner, his friend and the now deceased man accused selling un-taxed cigarettes on a NYC street, went in front of a Grand Jury September 1, 2014. He was indicted on what he says were trumped up charges as retaliation for filming the incident for which Officer Pantaleo was not indicted.
“Police alleged that Orta had slipped a .25 caliber handgun into a teenage accomplice’s waistband outside a New York hotel. Orta testified that the charges were falsely mounted by police in retaliation for his role in documenting Garner’s death, but the grand jury rejected his contention, charging him with single felony counts of third-degree criminal weapon possession and criminal firearm possession.”
Raw Story reported Orta stating in an interview with the Advance that he was also threatened at that time:
“When they searched me, they didn’t find nothing on me…and the same cop that searched me, he told me clearly himself, that karma’s a b*tch, what goes around comes around,” Orta said, adding later, “I had nothing to do with this. I would be stupid to walk around with a gun after me being in the spotlight.”

There are several ways he could be charged. 1. – If they saw the transfer or, 2- If the person who it was passed to made incriminating statements. The magical invisible gun was neither magical nor invisible. It was recovered.

He never said they planted evidence on him, none was found, they fabricated a story about him giving it to someone else, an assertion they cannot prove and a weapon they cannot find. It is retaliatory plain and simple. The law of this nation supposedly asserts that one is innocent until proven guilty. An indictment is simply an indication that it should go to trial. Police never go to trial since they are the enforcers of an unjust system. But unlike your unfounded assertion of ‘criminality’ on the part of the accused, he still hasn’t been found guilty of anything.

All the police are doing is using a poor system against him. They arrest him throw him in jail. Make up some story or they may have found some slime with a 22. This guy has no money so probably cant raise bail. gets an overworked public defender who will press him to take a plea bargain or sit in jail another 4 months before he comes to trail. During that four months cop talks to a guy he busted telling him if he does a favor for the cop the cop will drop the case against him, all he has to do is use the camera guy as a punching bag. By the time the trial comes the judge throws it out because the slime who had the gun and blamed him doesn’t show. Now of coarse he’s lost 4 months or more of his life, if he had a job he lost it probably lost some teeth also.
