This Chart Reveals America’s Cold Truth: 1,260 Killed, 3,606 Injured In 994 Mass Shootings In 1,004 Days

In what was one of the most powerful speeches of his administration, following a recent mass shooting at a school in Oregon, the US President Barack Obama said:

“We are not the only country on Earth that has people with mental illnesses or want to do harm to other people. We are the only advanced country on Earth that sees these kinds of mass shootings every few months. Somehow this has become routine. My response here at this podium ends up being routine. The conversation in the aftermath even ends up being routine. We become numb to this. Our thoughts and prayers are not enough.

“There is a gun for roughly every man, woman and child in America. I hope and pray that I am not going to have come out again during my tenure as President to offer my condolences in these circumstances. But, based on my tenure as President, I can’t guarantee that — and that’s terrible to say. And it can change.

“When Americans are killed in mine disasters, we work to make mines safer. When Americans are killed in foods and hurricanes, we make communities safer. When roads are unsafe, we fix them to reduce auto facilities; we have seatbelt laws because we know it saves lives. So the notion that gun violence is somehow different, that our freedom and our constitution prohibit any modest regulation of how we use a deadly weapon doesn’t make sense.”

While Obama called the US response to gun violence as routine and asked voters to demand gun control, the data compiled by the crowd-sourced site Mass Shooting Tracker reveals shocking human toll: there is a mass shooting – defined as four or more people shot in one incident – nearly every day: which proves that gun violence has claimed more lives than terrorism…

  1. Its not the guns fault its the person behind that gun, anyone who thinks taking ours away would help is 100% wrong it will just cause the criminals to have them and more helpless Americans will die. Honestly I think obama is behind lots of these , setting them up to try and help his anti gun campaign

    • You are really an idiot. A complete moron. There is nothing more to say to that. Every statistic from countries all over the world, also in my own (Germany) shows the complete opposite of what you are claiming. Less guns mean less dead. They have to be taken from everyone and it’s sure that this is not possible over night, but there will be MUCH less dead if not every idiot can just go and buy a gun. This is a proven fact by experience and you can tell the world a million times that it is the opposite. That still doesn’t change the facts. We are80 millions in my country and we have like 300 people shot every year. You have like 40000. Do yoz see why??

      • Don’t worry about america, worry about yourself. How are you going to protect yourself from the “migrant” radicals coming to your country? Isn’t it crazy how many of those shootings are in gun free zones? I guess writing shit on paper doesn’t stop it, a good guy with a gun does.

      • Do you realize when your country first outlawed guns was during ww2 and it was done by the nationalist socialist and Nazi parties at the time. Look how many of your people have died since then not war casualties soldiers ect. But defenceless citizens in multiple different Nazi occupied territories. And further more you do not live in my country. I do not tell you how yours should be run back off about mine. I realize it’s got problems but make sure your own hands are clean before you point fingers you arrogant filth.

      • Wrong. I could kill you with a machete from Wal-Mart if I want to kill you. I don’t need a gun. All you’re doing is removing an option from my arsenal. I could also strap 20 9-volt batteries together in a harness on my back, with wires in my hands with rubber gloves on, I could proceed to choke you to death while burning out your organs with 180 volts of DC current. I would rather be shot.

      • You are both correct in a sense. The fact is guns have been easy to acquire in the U.S for both criminals and the average civilian. Even if the U.S were to successfully ban all guns sales, the people would still find a way to get them as well as the criminals. It is really a sociological problem. The U.S is inherently gun savvy. It has (according to some) become ingrained in the country’s culture. The arming of the public will not stop death, it will still mean that, at the end of the day, one of the individuals involved in an incident will die or be seriously injured (this is where statistics in shooting violence is bent in an odd direction. It does not say whether or not the criminal or victim was killed.) However, the removing of all guns from a country like the U.S would be a disaster. It is much too easy for the wrong people to get their hands on them. The U.S Government has even given up trying to pass laws that make it illegal for someone to manufacture their own firearms as it has proven near impossible to pass. Even if the guns were removed from the U.S, more guns would pop up overnight with no way to trace them back to a buyer. This is why people outside of the U.S have a hard time understanding that just taking away people’s firearms is not a fix for the problem of mass shootings or gun crime in general. Not to mention the U.S public is very wary of their government and how much control it wields over it. Allowing only law enforcement and government officials to posses guns would throw the country into a panic. In regards to gun free zones: they do not work. Unless the place of business or school that bans firearms has adequate security in place to protect customers/students, these gun free zones will continue to fail. Otherwise, what’s to stop a highschooler from kicking a sharp bar of metal off of a school desk and beating in their teacher’s skull? They don’t even need a gun. At Franklin Regional High School, a student brought two kitchen knives to school and began stabbing students in the halls during a busy change of classes. He wounded nearly two-dozen people. This is an excellent case to illustrate that guns are not the main problem, nor the main solution to mass violence. It is a social problem that will take more than a restriction of guns or an increase of guns to solve.

    • Its the stupidity of people like you that leads to mass shootings like this. You and those of you who think that all Americans are entitle to bare arms are directly responsible for these senseless deaths. The sooner you realise this the sooner these events will end, period! The rest of the world is growing tired of your immature attitude towards life, it time to grow up and become responsible for your actions.

    • I don’t argue with people on line as it is a self defeating purpose but you are so fucking wrong it is mind boggling. I mean that. I cannot comprehend how you believe your own fucked up agenda. Dumb is given by DNA ignorance is choice and you have both. Fuckwit.

    • I Agree With You Cory, A Gun Doesn’t Just Sprout Legs, Walk Into A School (Gun Free Zone), And Kill 10 People. People Kill Not Guns.

    • I think the word you are looking for is statistic, I know, it is more than one syllable and they can be tricky but keep at it, you fuckwit.

  2. It’s crazy how many of those shootings are in gun free zones. It’s almost as if a piece of paper with writing on it doesn’t stop it, only a good guy with a gun does

  3. I’ve never met an American with a gun in plain sight. But I’ve never been in a hostile situation or involved in gang activities. In my world guns are prohibited and therefore, less visible in a gang’s weapons arsenal. The sophisticated gangs have guns illegally but the street level thugs are armed with knives. Less people die from stabbing wounds. As for the general public, guns are not household items for a couple of good reasons. Guns present a real danger of accidents around minors and truthfully, the average family is not threatened or exposed to armed assailants. There is also a very real danger for an inexperienced gun holder to find themselves the victim in a conflict with an experienced gun handler. If you’re not able to aim and fire a gun without conscious hesitation, then don’t pick one up!

  4. If two people, both armed with a firearm, face each other from a distance, one is probably going down! In a fist fight, one on one, the chances are that nobody gets hurt. Most often the combatants posture but seldom swing a blow! If knives are used, maybe someone gets hurt but, maybe not! Again, face to face in close quarters, it’s psychologically hard to make that first move!

  5. Cowards needs guns to feel secure, a real man fight with his fists. Now I understand why america has that gun problems and all those psycho cowards killing people!.

  6. The level of ignorance is astounding. I am really getting tired of people around the world thinking it is their right to tell me as an American citizen that my right to own and bare arms for the act of self defense and feeding my family the way I, let me repeat, THE WAY THAT I want to feed my family is null and void. Instead of attacking our rights and our way of life how about attacking the people that propagate the conditions that cause the gun violence? The corrupt officials and corporations causing people to resort to stealing and often the use of an illegal firearm. How about the police that are on power trips and shoot people because that person doesn’t comply like a lamb to the slaughter? How about the use of schools to feed a prison system? I can go on and on but the fact of the matter is that a corrupt hierarchy is to blame for the mental issues that these gunmen have. These people can’t get the treatment they need as children and then live their lives being persecuted because they might be different and never having someone there to support them. I have read so many articles here on this website that points to these reasons and then this gets posted? Counter intuitive if you ask me. The change has to start at the top and work its way down. Trying to take the guns out of every ones hands is not going to work if the corrupt are allowed to remain at the top no matter how hard you try. Fix the government and school systems and maybe, just maybe we can see some actual progress.
