TWO HATE CRIMES IN HAWTHORNE, CALIFORNIA
THE AHMADIYYA MUSLIM COMMUNITY BAITUS-SALAAM MOSQUE WAS VANDALIZED on Sunday. Officers found graffiti on a fence saying “Jesus”, as well as what “appeared to be a hand-grenade type of device in the driveway”. “A few of our members went to early morning prayer at about 5 a.m. and they found graffiti on the outside wall and ‘Jesus’ was written on the fence. As Muslims we don’t really find [the crosses] very offensive, but the act of vandalizing is disturbing,” Zahid Mian, a member of the Mosque, told the San Bernardino Sun.
THE ISLAMIC CENTER OF HAWTHORNE WAS ALSO VANDALIZED on Sunday; the front of the building was spray-painted with the phrase, “Jesus is the way”, Hawthorne is investigating the incident as possible hate crimes. “I feel bad because … the day before, we had a walk for peace and healing. That same night … somebody came. Somebody who saw what happened and didn’t like what happened, and wanted to express his anger,” Jawdat Dajani, president of the board of directors at the Islamic Center of Hawthorne, told ABC News.
ARMED BIGOTS PROTEST OUTSIDE RICHARDSON MOSQUE
About 20 people, half of them armed with rifles, rallied outside a suburban Dallas mosque against Islamist violence and Syrian refugee resettlement. The protesting group included members of the “Three Percenters” who consider themselves patriots protecting the homeland from Muslims.
TWO MUSLIM WOMEN ATTACKED IN TAMPA
According to the Council on American-Islamic Relations, two hijab-wearing Muslim women were attacked in two separate incidents as they were leaving the mosques in the Tampa Bay area. One woman was driving when another car chased her and threw rocks at her. The second woman was shot at while she was leaving a mosque near the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino.
PALM DESERT MAN SETS CALIFORNIA MOSQUE ON FIRE
23-year-old Carl James Dial Jr threw a molotov cocktail on the Islamic Society of the Coachella Valley as four or five people prayed inside the Southern California mosque. Flames were reported just after noon; although nobody was hurt and the fire was quickly put out, it caused significant damage to the building. The FBI is investigating the firebomb attack.
GEORGIA TEACHER ASKS 8th GRADER IF SHE HAS A BOMB IN HER BAG
A 13-year-old girl – who wears a hijab – was heading to class at Shiloh Middle School in Gwinnett County, Georgia when a teacher stopped her to ask what she had in her bag. Her father, Abdrizak Aden, told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, “We are from Africa, we are Muslims, we live in America. I didn’t teach my children to hate people or to think they are better than other people. I don’t want anybody to treat them like that.”

CAIR, a leading Muslim organization in the US, had to evacuate its headquarters in Washington after it received a hateful message and white powder in the post. A note reading “die a painful death, Muslims“, was found in the envelope with the powder.
CUSTOMER SLAPS WORKER IN ANTI-MUSLIM TIRADE
After ordering a slice of pizza at a Herald Square restaurant, 26-year-old Robert Murino started yelling at the staff — who hail from Pakistan, India and Bangladesh — asking them if they are Muslims. “How do you feel about ISIS,” he asked one of them. When an employee tried to calm Murino down, Murino slapped him. At that point, Murino was escorted out, but he returned later, picked up a chair and smashed two glass partitions at the food counter. He has been charged with a hate crime.

VANDALS TARGET ISLAMIC COMMUNITY CENTER IN PHOENIX
The Islamic Community Center of Phoenix, located near Interstate 17 and Northern Avenue, was found vandalized on December 10. The president of the mosque, Usama Sharmi, told ABC15 that a window in an office under construction and another window and spotlight were damaged and broken.
“It makes me sad. I’ve been a resident of Phoenix for almost 20 years and this is my home. We have a lot of support from the community and it just takes one person like that to poison the atmosphere.”
WOMAN IN BROOKLYN KICKED AND VERBALLY ABUSED
A woman, waiting for a bus in Bay Ridge, was approached by a man who told her, “I can’t wait for the US to get rid of you trash,” then kicked her in the thigh and fled the scene.
SEATTLE MAN PUNCHES A RIDE-SHARE DRIVER IN THE HEAD, CALLS HIM TERRORISTS
Seattle police arrested a 36-year-old man suspected of punching a ride-share driver in the head after accusing him of belonging to a terrorist group. The driver was heading downtown with three men when one of them started grabbing him and claiming he was a terrorist. After the driver asked the men to get out, the front-seat passenger punched the driver in the head and then walked away with the other men.
MUSLIM FAMILY’S TEXAS HOME VANDALIZED TWO NIGHTS IN A ROW
A Muslim family had their windows smashed twice last week by an unknown assailant. The family moved to Texas’ East Plano six weeks ago, and they believe the attacks are due to their religion. “More than the damage — it’s not the window — it’s the terrifying factor of it. It is them trying to terrorize us or scare us. The kids are scared; they don’t want to go up or down alone,” the homeowner told a local CBS affiliate
PIG’S HEAD TOSSED AT PHILADELPHIA MOSQUE
Someone from a red truck driving by the Al-Aqsa Islamic Society tossed pig’s head rolls near the mosque’s door. Pork and pork byproducts are forbidden in Islam. “We all know of the terrible, thoughtless, ignorant act that someone perpetrated in this city. We will, of course, at some point in time find the coward,” vowed Mayor Michael Nutter.
SOMALI RESTAURANT VANDALIZED, SET ON FIRE
Juba Coffee House, a popular Somali restaurant on South Washington Street in Grand Forks, was set on fire causing $90,000 damage to the building and its contents. The Grand Forks Fire Department said the fire was “incendiary and suspicious in nature”. Three days later, Matthew William Gust, 25, was charged with arson, a Class B felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison, in Grand Forks County District Court. On Dec 3, the restaurant was vandalized when someone painted graffiti – SS – in the style of a symbol for Nazi Germany’s Gestapo above the painted words “go home” on the exterior wall of the building.

JERSEY CITY MOSQUE ASKED TO GO BACK TO THE DESERT
According to LA Times, officials at a mosque in Jersey City, New Jersey, reported receiving an anonymous letter calling Muslims “evil” and telling them to “go back to the desert”. The letter referenced comments Donald Trump made about people in Jersey City celebrating after the September 11, 2001, attacks.
MUSLIM CONGRESSMAN GETS DEATH THREAT
Rep. AndreCarson (D-Ind.), one of two Muslims in Congress, said he received a death threat on December 7. “What concerns me is you have the demagoguery taking place from people seeking to become president of the United States. You have other politicians who are joining the bandwagon and who are fanning the flames of bigotry. That concerns me because we’re putting people — i.e. Muslims, Sikhs, Hindus and others — into the line of fire exposing them to death threats, discrimination at the workplace and assaults,” he told CNN’s Jake Tapper.
