Jamie Foxx, Jason Bateman, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Carey Mulligan, Beyonce, Jeremy Renner, Amy Poehler, Jessica Alba, Rashida Jones, Aziz Ansari, John Legend, Nick Offerman, John Slattery, Selana Gomez, Jennifer Aniston, Jon Hamm, Chris Rock and Conan O’Brien are part of a bevy of celebrities making appearances in the one-and-a-half minute ad to push for more effective gun control legislation in the wake of the December 14, 2012 shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown that killed 20 children and 6 adults.

The short public service announcement features the celebrity activists asking — How many more colleges? How many more classrooms? How many more movie theaters? How many more houses of faith? How many more shopping malls? How many more street corners? before lawmakers take steps that will save lives. Gwyneth Paltrow is among the 3 million Americans who support the petition.

In 2012, more than 100 public figures, including Arianna Huffington, Lady Gaga, Martha Stewart, MC Hammer, Goldie Hawn, and Ken Burns signed a full-page ad published in December 19’s New York Times, in support of New York City Mayor Bloomberg-led Mayors Against Illegal Guns’ Demand a Plan campaign.

“The time has come for courage. The Courage to make our schools and workplaces, our shopping malls and movie theaters — all the places we share every day — safe from gun violence. The courage to stand up to the NRA — to put human life ahead of extreme ideology. The courage to ban weapons of mass murder that at anytime, anywhere, can turn America into a killing field.

“We cannot let the latest massacre fade into memory — another horrible headline followed by indifference and inaction. We must speak for those whose voices will never be heard again. e must speak truth to those in power — and insist that now is the time to do what is right instead of pandering before merchants of death,” the ad read.

NYT

Since the December 2012 shooting in Newtown, there have been at least 135 school shootings in America — an average of nearly one a week. How many more before our leaders pass common-sense laws to prevent gun violence and save lives?

  1. So what they are saying is that the Celebrities will give up their ARMED Guards also and just switch to UNARMED bodyguards! I think not! If your bodyguard can exercise his second amendment rights to protect your life then I can do the same!

  2. Attention Vandita and Anon Hq.

You do not speak for the Collective.
You do not speak for Anonymous.
Anonymous is a headless dragon incapable of decapitation.
Who the FUCK do you think you are holding yourself out to the world as our HQ?
Where the Fuck do you come off thinking it is okay to marry us to Hollywood, the Establishment, and Gun Control?
You have sold your souls to the corrupt.
You are Guilty and Must be Punished.

  3. Wow Anonymous, of which you are not apart of. You’re motives in this case need to reflect the real world issues and also the facts as well. You are leaning more towards a government take over of someones rights as well. Which I thought you were against. You need to also realize when it comes to Hollywood actors and actresses, none of them could live where most do, they are spoiled individuals that we should only see on a big screen. Other then that you should take most of their messages with a grain of salt and fact find first.

Are there people that should not own firearms yes, but most whom are a law abiding citizen and carries the firearm with respect and training is not a threat. The ones that are gang members, LEOs, and some that have been known to be under a mental health issue. Other then that Sorry you lose.

  5. OK. This is officially the point where I dump this poser site from my FB feed. I strongly encourage all freethinking humans who oppose supporting tyranny and the corporate establishment to do the same. See ya.
