Anonymous Shuts Down City of Cleveland Website

89

In response to the shooting of 12 year old boy, Temir Rice, Anonymous Hactivists have shut down the official site for the City of Cleveland, launching their attack. Temir Rice was shot twice by police after a phone call was placed to 911 stating that someone may have a gun, but that it was most likely a fake one.

The police arrived on the scene shortly after and requested Temir Rice to raise his hands. When he reached towards his belt instead, they shot him twice to disable him. He later died of the wounds in hospital.

Anonymous are blaming the training for the police rather than the rookie police officers. In operation #TangoDown, Anonymous aimed their attack at the City of Cleveland and the police departments, raising the question of lethal force used against a child when options such as the Taser were available. The child was discovered to be armed with a BB gun.

Anonymous vow to tackle the issue of the poorly trained police officers not only in Cleveland, but across the country.

Anonymous Sits Down With KKK Leader in Interview

16

“Nobody’s even going to know we’re there,” is the response from Frank Ancona, Grand Wizard of the Traditionalist American Knights of the Ku Klux Klan, during a filmed interview between an Anonymous representative and the KKK.

The meeting was arranged to answer some questions, mitigating some tension between the two groups after the twitter campaign #OpKKK, last week. The twitter campaign saw the KKK account hijacked and members de-hooded in light of the Ferguson protests.

In a sit-down meeting, Ancona spoke with the Anonymous representative on the matters surrounding the Ferguson protests. Ancona admitted during the interview up until now, he didn’t have a full understanding of who and what Anonymous stood for, citing freedom of speech as a common denominator between the two. However, when pressed on the matter of the KKK appearing in Ferguson to bear arms, Ancona reminds the Anonymous representative of the Missouri Law to have the right to meet lethal force with lethal force, before stating “…we’re not sending an army to Ferguson to come down there and start a bunch of trouble…[at the protests]. Nobody’s even going to know we’re there.”

California Precedent for Impaired Marijuana Drivers

4

Driving “impaired” in the State of California covers a myriad of violations one can be involved in, not just intoxication from alcohol, and drugs. It could include texting on your phone, sleep deprivation, prescription medications or something as simple as swerving on the road. The law encompasses impairment in its truest sense, a broad term to cover reckless driving.

It is this law that others should consider when searching for answers regarding the implications of marijuana, driving, and impairment; stemming from the concern that marijuana is not comparable to the current impairment laws involving alcohol. Marijuana isn’t processed in the body the same way as alcohol is. If you add those who use it for medical reasons, the lines blur more, with their body building a resistance to the drug, hence not being affected by the legal limits imposed.

As more states across America adopt policies legalizing marijuana, it may or may not see an increase of impaired drivers on the road. The question is how to test them fairly under these new changes. California may prove itself in paving the way for a more accurate and efficient law to trial this.

Democrats & Republicans passed a law written and paid for by lobbyists for Wall Street banks

Written by: Alek Hidell

On July 21, 2010, President Barack Obama signed his name to the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act.  The act came about as a result of the Great Recession, which we all know was caused by the banksters on Wall Street.  Dodd-Frank’s purpose was to “Create a Sound Economic Foundation to Grow Jobs, Protect Consumers, Rein in Wall Street and Big Bonuses, End Bailouts and Too Big to Fail, Prevent Another Financial Crisis.”  The act addressed derivatives, the “Volcker Rule”, consumer protection, and implemented a slew of other regulatory measures.  All in all, an attempted overhaul at a corrupt and unjust system.

Dodd-Frank has been under attack by conservatives since day one. The talking points started right away.  Everything from “Dodd-Frank is  a job killer” to “customers will flee to foreign banks” were yelled by the opposition.  Last year, in one of the biggest challenges to Dodd-Frank, the House passed the Swaps Regulatory Improvement Act, otherwise known as HR 992. A swap is a basically a trade of securities where the interest rate on the security makes the swap beneficial for both parties.  Dodd-Frank regulated swaps so as to make firms who participate in certain swaps and derivative trading, no longer eligible for financial assistance, ie. loans to purchase said swaps. HR 992 looked to overturn parts of DF, which would set the stage for another financial meltdown.  The New York Times found that 70 out of 85 lines of HR 992 were taken verbatim from a version of the bill written by Citigroup lobbyists.  The bill was also sponsored by Rep. Jim Hines (D-Ct), a former Goldman Sachs executive. Plainly, this is not a bill introduced by the people. This is the banking industry’s attempt to buy legislation.  Over $22 million in lobbying money came from interest groups supporting this bill.

The most recent challenge to Dodd-Frank came on November 19, 2014.  The Competitive Enterprise Institute filed suit in a Washington court challenging three regulatory aspects of  Dodd-Frank, meant to provide additional congressional oversight. The CEI claims that the creation of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the Financial Protection Bureau and the Orderly Liquidation Authority are acting as regulatory agencies over practices not subject to congressional oversight.  They also suggest that oversight has been “severely restrictive” in allowing banks to conduct business.  The CEI is not alone in their mission.  The law suit is backed by a slew of banking organizations as well as the States of Oklahoma, Michigan, South Carolina, Alabama, Georgia, Kansas, Ohio, Montana, Nebraska, Texas, and West Virginia.

While the constitutionality of Dodd-Frank is examined by experts on both sides, one thing is clear.  The banking system proved with the financial meltdown, that ongoing scrutiny and regulation of the industry must continue.  If left unchecked, the greed of Wall Street combined with little or no regulation is a losing formula for the American people and the world.

America’s Hidden Slave Labor

30

Getting a job isn’t easy. Getting a job that you like, that pays okay, well that’s not so easy these days either. But in the prisons across the United States, work is abound. It is almost plentiful. But there’s a catch. A dark, sneaky one that the general public isn’t aware of.

The plentiful work found within the prison system, that could be used to employ thousands on the outside of the walls, is being given to inmates as slave labor. The governments have found a way to produce goods and services for minimal wages, bypassing normal regulations which govern overtime, sick leave and workplace injury. And when I say minimal wages, picture between 20 and 31 cents an hour. [1]

The workforce has always been in existence within the cellblocks – right back to the days of roadside chain gangs. But back then, it was a form of punishment, grueling labor for those who committed the crime. These days, it is a form of cheap labor that provides an easy path to production that could be used to employ those on the outside. Office furniture is built, telemarketers answer phones, uniforms sewn. These tasks are argued to provide a transition phase to those prisoners to be released; but it is nothing short of modern slavery, low cost work that remains unprotected.

One must question the true motives behind such a cause, and also the structures surrounding the practice.
